Your first visit will begin with a detailed case history being taken. We will ask you questions about your complaint, your medical, social and occupational history, your general health and your diet and lifestyle.
You will then be asked to undress down to your underwear. Gowns are available if required. We will ask you to perform some simple movements, and will use touch to locate areas of weakness, strained tissues or pain.
We will then discuss your diagnosis with you. We will explain what treatment we can offer you and what improvements we can expect to achieve. If time permits, we will begin treatment during your first visit. We may also give you advice to help manage your condition and may prescribe simple stretches and exercises.
Your first session will last for one hour. Subsequent treatments will usually last for thirty minutes. We will estimate the number of treatments you will require on your first visit. Acute conditions may only need one or two treatments, whereas more chronic conditions may require more treatments. There is no obligation to book or pay for blocks of appointments in advance- we find it more effective to re-evaluate your progress at each visit and schedule further appointments accordingly.
You may choose to have a friend or relative present during your appointment.
It is common to feel stiff or sore after a treatment. This is commonly known as a 'treatment reaction' and should last no longer than 48 hours. If you have any concerns, please contact your osteopath.
